Hair Loss

Hair loss is a condition that occurs due to different reasons and can often have an impact on a person's appearance and self-confidence. There are different types of hair loss, and each has distinctive features. First, male pattern and female pattern hair loss, known as androgenetic alopecia, is the most common type. This type, which arises due to genetic predisposition, is usually manifested by retraction in the forehead area and thinning on the crown in men, while it causes thinning of the hair in a wider area in women. In another type, called telogen effluvium, factors such as stress, illness, or hormonal changes cause hair follicles to go into a resting phase, which leads to hair loss. Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease in which round or oval balding areas are formed as a result of the immune system attacking the hair follicles. Scarring alopecia is a condition in which hair follicles are damaged and cause irreversible hair loss. On the other hand, while traction alopecia develops due to continuous stretching of the hair, treatment-related hair loss is seen especially as a side effect of cancer treatments. Types of hair loss vary widely, and each has different causes and characteristics. Therefore, it is important for individuals to seek expert medical advice when faced with hair loss problems.
